VIRGINIA'S DIARY

A young family’s voyage of discovery from Boston to Sydney (via Europe) in a single engine Cessna.
By Robin and Virginia Frith

In 1975, Robin, his wife and three young children completed a 3 month flight that turned out to be not just a family flying adventure, but the foundation of a voyage of discovery, for all the members of the family that continues with the children and grandchildren into the 21st century. Even after 36 years, this family flight, carried out in the pre GPS navigation period, is unique in the annals of private, around the world, aviation adventures.

This travelogue, written around a diary kept by his late wife, Virginia on the trip, chronicles the family’s experiences in their travel through 18 countries and 38 cities/towns in the travel from Boston to Sydney.

The authors were both born and educated in Northern Tasmania before pursuing their careers and raising a family, principally in Sydney and the US.

In 2005 Robin returned to live in Launceston in retirement with his second wife, Annette.

TAMAR LAKE INC.

Tamar Lake Inc, a not for profit incorporated association was formed, with Robin Frith as President, to demonstrate the feasibility of installing a barrage on the Tamar River to control the accumulation of silt in the upper reaches of the river and form a large freshwater lake as a boost to the economic development of Launceston and the Tamar Valley. An Executive Summary of the Tamar Valley Strategy is available for downloading at www.tamarlake.com.au
