Robin's BIO

Robin is an electrical engineer who returned to Launceston, Tasmania after a 45 year international career as one of the pioneers of the information technology industry.

Born in Launceston and educated at the Launceston Church Grammar School, he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tasmania. He also completed post-graduate studies in management development, marketing and strategic planning at Columbia University in the United States.

Robin played an entrepreneurial role as chief executive of two mainstream IT companies and advisory roles in strategic planning for multinational companies internationally.

He founded Digital Equipment Corporation in Australia and managed it for five years before moving to the US as corporate marketing manager for DEC for seven years.

Robin advised NEC Corporation in Tokyo on the company's international information technology business strategy then founded NEC Information Systems in Australia.

Before retirement, as Managing Director of Lateral Concepts Australia, Robin managed the pilot Australia-Ireland partnership program for the Northern Ireland Industrial Development Board.

Robin lived in Sydney for more than 30 years before moving back to Launceston in 2005 with his second wife Annette.

In retirement, Robin has kept very busy writing his book, 'Virginia's Diary', renovating his house in East Launceston and, for the community, developing a privately funded Strategic Plan for the development of the Tamar River.
